Reading to Kindergarteners
Each year, leading up to Veterans Day, H4H brings local veterans to several elementary schools in our service area for a special book reading to kindergarten students.
This rewarding program helps children connect to veterans, who walk amongst them as civilians every day. Our veterans read “Veterans: Heroes in Our Neighborhoods” by Valerie Pfundstein. The book introduces children to the real-life superheroes in society – our military veterans – and depicts, at a child-appropriate learning level, who veterans are and what they did to serve and aid our country.
This is a wonderful chance for these young students learn the meaning of the Veterans Day holiday from these veteran readers first-hand!
If you are a Kindergarten teacher interested in bringing this program to your school, please contact our Veteran Relations Coordinator at info@heidrea4heroes.org. She will be in touch with you closer after the start of school to set up a time for the reading. Readings are based on a first come, first serve basis and we are limited in how many classrooms we can visit.
